3.3 ct Unheated Umba Sapphire
Blue with soft lavender shift • Tanzania • 3.35 ct • custom modified pear • precision faceted • 50k polish
A larger, precision-cut Umba sapphire in a distinctly elegant blue with soft lavender undertones. This 3.35 ct stone was cut in a custom modified pear with a broad, architectural profile and a tiered crown featuring four descending rows of rectangular facets, giving it a distinctly structured, almost step-cut appearance while retaining the brightness and movement of a mixed brilliant design. The result is a broad face-up presentation with strong visual presence and a more tailored geometry than a standard pear.
Color is a cool medium blue with a soft lavender-purple shift depending on lighting, characteristic of fine Umba material. In daylight it reads predominantly blue with a slightly steely tone; under warmer indoor lighting the stone takes on a more lavender cast. The shift is present but refined—more subtle tonal movement than dramatic color-change.
A concentrated internal area of fine crystalline “sugar” remains near the broader end of the stone, confined to one interior region and not surface-reaching. Unlike feathers or structural veils, this is a stable natural inclusion feature rather than a durability concern, and the surface remains clean and well-finished throughout. In hand it reads less as a flaw than as a natural fingerprint—visible enough to confirm untreated origin, but localized enough not to dominate the face-up appearance. It adds character without materially compromising wearability, and should make a distinctive and durable finished jewelry stone.
Precision polished to 50k.
A well-cut larger Umba with unusual faceting, strong face-up size, and the subtle tonal complexity that makes untreated material from this locality especially compelling.
