The 51.5ct Grande Collector Rhodolite Garnet
Natural Rhodolite Garnet • 51.5 Carats • Precision Faceted • Untreated
Cut from an exceptional 117-carat piece of natural rough, this 51.5-carat rhodolite garnet represents an unusually large and remarkably clean example of the species. Gems of this size are rarely encountered, and even less commonly finished as precision-cut collector stones.
Color & Optical Character
This gem displays a deeply saturated purplish-red to crimson-red body color. In ordinary viewing conditions it presents a rich wine-red to black-cherry appearance, while direct sunlight and strong directional lighting reveal vivid crimson-red internal illumination and flashes of raspberry-red fire.
Like many highly saturated garnets of substantial size, the stone can appear dark under subdued lighting. When illuminated from favorable angles, however, the crystal opens dramatically, revealing the rich red transmission and depth of color hidden within the material.
Clarity
The stone is exceptionally clean for its size, remaining free of any inclusions visible to the unaided eye under normal viewing conditions. Its transparency and structural integrity allowed the original rough to be fashioned into a finished gemstone exceeding fifty carats while maintaining excellent durability and polish.
Cutting History
The finished gem was precision faceted from approximately 117 carats of rough material, progressing through an 88-carat preform before reaching its final 51.5-carat form. The result is a substantial collector gemstone showcasing both the rarity of the original rough and the challenges involved in preserving color, brightness, and yield at this scale.
Collector Notes
Large, eye-clean rhodolites are uncommon. Precision-cut examples exceeding fifty carats are rarer still. This stone is best appreciated as a collector’s gem: a dramatic display piece combining unusual size, exceptional cleanliness, and richly saturated color in a single natural crystal.Specifications
